Participation Lodge's roots date back to the mid 1970's when Lutheran Cluster, owners of the lake front property now known as LutheRanch were looking to support a charity. Twenty-five acres was donated for the future site of Participation Lodge Grey-Bruce, a vacation/resort spot for adults with physical and developmental challenges. At that time, the Board of Directors raised $1,000,000.00 through fund raising telethons and special events. The one million dollars was matched by Wintario to finance the building of the facility, which was officially opened in 1982.

In order to access government support, Participation Lodge became a registered charity and services were expanded to accommodate 20 permanent residents. With our Outreach and Apartment Projects our services extend well beyond the walls of our main building near Holland Centre.

Today, Participation Lodge & Community Services is moving toward a more person centered approach to service delivery. It simply isn't natural to have 20 people living under the same roof. Our residents have different interests and personal priorities and they must be given the opportunity to direct their own personal care as well as their social and recreational preferences. Our government funding only provides our residents with an "excellent quality of care".

Our plans for the future include the purchasing of accessible housing in the community, he facilitation of individual outings and the expansion of our services throughout Grey and Bruce Counties. These initiatives do not fall under the category of "personal care" and can only be accomplished through public and private donations and corporate sponsorships. That is why we need you.
