Personal Outcomes -  A New Approach to Residential Care

Participation Lodge is embracing a Personal Outcomes approach to provision of service. Personal Outcomes is a tool to measure program quality in its truest form, the quality of life of the people served. Personal Outcomes grounds the organization in what matters most, supporting people to achieve their own personal outcomes.

Traditionally, quality in programs looked at meeting the budget, how clean the building was, the number of full time staff, how quickly and accurately reports were submitted. While these areas continue to be important and must still be met, we must re-focus on the reason we are in business, PEOPLE!

With personal outcomes the measure of success moves from how well the professionals and programs are doing to how well the individual is doing, and in those areas that are most important to him or her. Traditionally we have always slotted individuals into the program and expected them to adapt to the program, instead of building the program to meet the individuals’ needs. Personal outcomes challenges program designs because they consider outcomes that fall outside the boundaries of the program.
